The Wiper Times. Film.

Every once in a while a film will sneak into view and be absolutely delightful. "The Wipers Times" is one of those.

A TV movie from 2013 gives us a satirist glimpse into WW1 and the men behind the publication, "The Wipers Times". It started it's run in 1916 and ended it in 1918 at the end of the war. It's contributors came from the ranks of men fighting and slogging in the mud in France. Plenty of humorous poems, off the wall editorials and completely ridiculous, fake advertising . Poking fun at the top brass and lunacy of modern warfare made it very popular among the troops.  It reminded me of Lenny Bruce and Jon Stewart.

Directed by Andy de Emmony and starring Ben Chaplin. The photography is beautiful and the script is brilliant. There are some very creative breakaways with dancing and singing offered by the men. Highly recommended.
